Sandy-beach whelks (Bullia digitalis) feeding on a stranded Portuguese Man O' War, a marine invertebrate composed of specialised cnidarians (simple aquatic animals). Bullia digitalis lives on sandy beaches in South Africa and feeds on carrion found washed up along the shore. It is highly variable in shell colour but this striped form, that blends so well into the sandy environment, is thought to help conceal it from predators. Photographed at De Hoop Nature Reserve, South Africa.
