Take Off, a metal sculpture featuring three egrets taking flight, is a prominent feature that greets visitors approaching Birmingham Airport by road. Positioned on a roundabout known as Bird Island, the twenty-eight foot high sculpture, constructed of mild steel, was created by Polish sculptor Walenty Pytel in 1985, to commemorate 40 years of peace in Europe. Pytel is widely regarded as one of the world's leading metal sculptors.
