Hornachuelos houses. Roman-republican oppidum, 2nd Century BCE. Archaeological site at Ribera del Fresno, Spain

The archaeological site of Hornachuelos is one of the essential places to value the contact and subsequent acculturation between two very different cultural traditions: the indigenous and the Roman. The works that have been carried out since 1986 show an early prehistoric occupation, an important development of the town already in the Roman-Republican era and its definitive abandonment between the end of the 1st century and the beginning of the 2nd century after Christ. Undoubtedly, the great strategic value of this elevation, the mining potential and the agricultural resources of the area were the determining reasons for the early occupation of the town.
