This portrait of a russian soldier was produced by Frank Thiele in 1995 and put in a huge lightbox at the former US Checkpoint Charlie. The other side of the lightbox shows an american soldier. The work should remember Berlin´s division in west and east sectors. From 1961 to 1989 it was only possible to cross east and west Berlin for western citizens with a special permission. Eastern citizens couldn´t travel to the west.
