China: Western drawing of Emperor Xianfeng (17 July 1831 - 22 August 1861) of the Qing Dynasty, 19th century. The Xianfeng Emperor (Hsien-feng), born Yizhu and temple name Wenzong, was the eighth Emperor of the Manchu-led Qing Dynasty, and the seventh Qing emperor to rule over China proper (r. 1850-1861). His reign saw the Qing Dynasty suffer several wars and rebellions, such as the Taiping Rebellion and the Second Opium War. He was the last emperor to have total ruling power, and the Qing Dynasty was controlled by Empress Dowager Cixi after his relatively young death from overindulgence.
