Chinese geese are domesticated versions descended from wild Swan Geese. This goose is most likely a male.
While it has been thought that Chinese geese are a domesticated variety descended from wild Swan Geese, there is no doubt in my mind, that long ago their ancestors were some form of dinosaur. The goose appears to have tiny teeth, but in truth, these tiny "teeth" are really transverse serrated tooth-like ridges lined up against the mandibles. These ridges help the goose to pull up roots, vegetation, and grasses from the bottom of ponds. This goose is most likely a male because of the large basal knob on the upper side of the bill. This male and his mate in the background was captured at the local duck/goose pond in Mesquite, NV, USA.
