Oregon Trail ruts near Guernsey, WY, a National Historic Monument. The ruts mark the passage of countless pioneers and settlers.
These trail ruts , on the Oregon Trail, near Guernsey Wyoming, have been worn into the soft sandstone by the iron shod wheels of countless settlers who passed this way on their journey westward. The trail descends to Register Cliff and a place to rest before crossing the North Platte River. The earliest people to use the trail were mountain men who relied on hunting and trade for a living. Later came the settlers, seeking a better life out west. Mormons also passed this way on their journey to Salt lake City.
