The Order of Saint Stephen was a dynastic-military order founded in 1561 by Cosimo de Medici, first Duke of Tuscany. It had its principal house at Pisa, and was obliged to equip a certain number of galleys to fight the Turks and pirates in the Mediterranean Sea.
