Local families play cricket beneath the lighthouse of Galle Fort Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka's fourth largest city Galle consists of new modern Galle inland and the old Dutch quarter known as the Fort. It was an old Dutch fortified town enclosed within a chain of huge stone bastions that juts out into the sea. It is Sri Lanka's best preserved colonial towns with old churches, Dutch colonial villas many now boutique hotels, restaurants and shops. One corner bastion is dominated by a slender white lighthouse built in 1938 and in the early evening local families & tourists walk along the ramparts enjoying the sunsets.
