Like Egypt, the Nile was divided into two sections,each section being presided over by a god. In the accom-panying illustration the two Nile-gods are tying thestem of a lotus plant and the stem of a papyrus plant in a knot round the symbol sma T\ which means to unite,. Ta-urt (Thoueris).
