This very remarkable and beautiful bird is one of those which connectthe ordinary Palcearctic fauna of Palestine with that of more tropical , as everywhere else where it occurs, it appears to be very first discovered it on Hermon, among the vineyards near its northernbase, and afterwards on Lebanon. Last year, in travelling through hth ERITHACUS GUTTURALIS Hanhart imp. A VES. 39 some wooded defiles in Southern Armenia, east of the Euphrates, I hadseveral opportunities of noticing its habits, which are very Robin-like whenin the bushes, but Chat-like on the open. The male has a magnificentbell-like note, not much inferior to the Bulbul, which it pours forth,perched among the thickest foliage. The White-throated Robin has avery limited range. It is found on the Abyssinian coast, in Asia Minor,Palestine, and Persia, always rare, among bushes in rocky valleys. 29. Eritliaciis litscinia. Linn. Syst. Nat. i., p. 32S. J~1j, Bulbul (generic for fine songsters). The Nightingale returns to Palestine in moderate numbers about themiddle of April, and remains to breed, frequenting especially the fringe oftrees by the banks of the Jordan.
