Former Senator, Secretary of the Navy, and Marine James Webb and Michael Desch, a professor of International Relations at the University of Notre Dame and the director of the Notre Dame International Security Center, recovered Hughes’ dog tag while conducting a battlefield study at the An Hoa airstrip in Vietnam. The dog tag was subsequently returned to the family of Cpl. Hughes, a Marine and Vietnam veteran who passed away in 2019.
