In the distance cane be seen the original Nijmegen road bridge which the Allies needed to capture during Operation Market Garden in September 1944. The 504th PIR of the American 82nd Airborne division crossed at this precise spot. The view is taken from the new bridge, called "The Crossing" to commemorate the events of 20th September 1944.
