Siege of Mahdia, 1390. Historical artwork showing the forces of the French commander Louis II, Duke of Bourbon, besieging the citadel of Mahdia in 1390. The invading fleet is shown in the background, while the invaders are using cannons and crossbows. Mahdia, on the North African coast in what is now Tunisia, was one of the major cities in the region at the time. The French forces, leading what is known as the Tunisian Crusade, failed to take the city, but a peace treaty was negotiated. This artwork is from a book published in 1844.
