The great-grandfather ofThomas W. was killed at the battle of Brandy-wine, which is all that is known of him. Hissou, Jacob Rhodes, was born near Bethlehem,Pa., where he grew to mans estate, marriedand raised a family of children and where hedied. Adam, the second son of Jacob, wasborn on the homestead farm, near Bethlehem,in 1797. He remained at home until his. <&M7l£ t^&j Northampton County, Pa. He was twice mar-ried and had eleven children, among whom wasJames H. Kerr, born in Stroudsburg, who re-sides mi the homestead, in Stroud married Catherine M., daughter of JudgeMuses Coolbaugh, and has two sons, Frank Joseph M., both druggists in \Y. Rhodes.—The Rhodes family,who were among the early settlers of MonroeCounty, are of German origin. Their ancestersemigrated to America prior to the War for marriage to Catherine Beaseeker, who was alsoborn near Bethlehem, when he removed toHamilton township, Monroe County, whichwas then in Northampton County, where hebought the firm now known as the old Wil-liams farm. It was only partly cleared, and ofit Mr. Rhodes made a pleasant home, where heresided many years. He finally sold it andpurchased a small place and retired from farm-ing. He died at the home of his son Jacob, inStroud township, in 184&l
