Blanche Scott (1885-1970), US aviator, in an aeroplane. Also known as Betty, Scott was interested in machines from an early age, driving her father's car, and then setting several car endurance records. The publicity from this led to her being offered flying lessons, and she subsequently became a professional pilot, the first woman to do so. She retired from flying in 1916.
