The image is of the 13th century medieval Dunstanburgh Castle cum fortress located on the northeast coast of England overlooking the North Sea. The castle was built by the Thomas, Earl of Lancaster the wealthiest nobleman in England and opponent-challenger to the Crown of Edward II, later being executed for his role in the uprising of the Barons against the King. Thereafter the castle figured in the 15th century English War of the Roses between the House of York and the House of Lancaster. As the castle declined to be of strategic use, the castle fell into a state of decay with the walls being plundered for its stone to be used elsewhere.
