WATERS SOUTH OF JAPAN (May 19, 2017) Gunner's Mate Seaman Apprentice Jakorey Smith, from Mobile, Alabama, prepares to fire MK 38 mm machine gun from the fantail of the Navy's forward-deployed aircraft carrier, USS Ronald Reagan (CVN 76). The preparation of the MK 38 MM machine gun was for a live-fire exercise. Ronald Reagan, the flagship of Carrier Strike Group 5, provides a combat-ready force that protects and defends the collective maritime interests of its allies and partners in the Indo-Asia-Pacific region.
