A batsman signalling down a Fairey Swordfish, a torpedo bomber and large biplane with a metal frame covered in fabric, specifically for carrier use as it had folding wings. Used by the Fleet Air Arm of the Royal Navy during World War II it was effectionately known as the “Stringbag” by its crews, but it was already outdated when the war started. It was operated as a primary attack aircraft until 1942 when it was redeployed in an anti-submarine role.
Pease note that whilst the image remains exactly the same, the bleached out sky in the original has been replaced to add more interest to the image.
