Thegearing is changed by the movement of alever. There are no loose gears; allremain on the machine. This gearing isall machine cut, and runs almost noise-lessly. An automatic oil pump is pro-vided to keep a constant flow of oil onthe chasers and cutting-off tool. When the machine is arranged to holdnipples, the jaws for gripping the pipeare removed, and replaced with jaws tohold nipples. There is a set of jaws foreach size nipple, l/± to 2 ins. They canbe changed from one size to another quitereadily, and they hold to thread eitherright or left hand. The threaded end ofthe nipple is placed in the jaws whilechuck is revolving.
