View SW of Ri Cruin Bronze Age round cairn, Kilmartin Glen, Scotland, UK, showing two of the three burial cists. The N cist (front R) contained a cremation & is constructed using carpentry techniques. The other two cists also use grooves & rebates to tightly fit the end-slabs. The S cist (rear L) has 7 pecked carvings of flat bronze axe-heads on its W end-slab. At the E end a narrow vertically placed slab bore a carving resembling a bronze halberd with horizontal streamers (or a boat or a rake). The cists, uncovered by stone robbing, were excavated in 1870 & again in 1929. The cairn was retained by a kerb of boulders & is around 20m across. It's the most southerly cairn in a line of five forming a prehistoric linear cemetery in Kilmartin Glen.
