Nicolo Paganini (1784–1840), between 1818–31, Counterproof strengthened with graphite and white chalk on tracing paper, 9 7/16 x 7 5/16 in. (24 x cm), Drawings, Jean Auguste Dominique Ingres (French, Montauban 1780–1867 Paris), Ingres was himself an accomplished violinist, and met and befriended Paganini by playing second violin in a performance with him. Ingres apparently drew three portraits of Paganini. This embellished counterproof is said to have been made for the engraver Calamatta
