It did not seem at all probable that any cavalry commandthat would be likely to get over the mountains into CentralKentucky would be accompanied by artillery, and thereforethe block-houses were only planned to resist attack by mus-ketry. I believe that some of them were captured in 1864 bya cavalry command, but I have the impression that the garri-sons either evacuated the block-houses, or else surrenderedthem without a fight.
