Microalgae biofuel research. Researcher holding a sample of dried Chlorella vulgaris microalgae being analysed as part of research into biofuels. These algae are grown using the carbon dioxide released from the combustion of waste at a waste incineration plant. The carbon dioxide is pumped into ponds containing algae to promote photosynthesis and therefore growth, and the algae are used for biofuel production. Photographed at the University of Poitiers, France.
