In 1826 Levi Merrick built the first bridge over tbe Thames into London. The secondbridge* was that of Blackfriars, erected in 1831 andrebuilt twenty years later. The bridge at the foot of Wellington street was built in 1840. The Ridout street bridge in 1848. In 1875 the erectionof the present iron structures began, Blackfriars being thejfirst erected, and Victoria bridge the second. King street bridge was erected in 1898.
