His deedsof heroism during the plague periods, and r/is eminent services in behalfof the orphans had caused his name to be known throughout the country,and earned for him the esteem of civilized nations. The Catholic peoplerejoiced at having Bishop Feehan come to govern them, as ha was an honorto the Church in America, and adorned the episcopacy by his learning,experience, piety and zeal. November 25th was the day designated for the arrival of the archbishop. MOST REV. A. FEEHAN, CHICAGOS FIRSTARCHBISHOP. THE CITY OF JUBILEE. 37, in Chicago, and it was the occasion of a grand outpouring of popular mani-festations of welcome to his Grace. Committees of the clergy and deputa-tions of the laity met him on the approach to his archiepiscopal see, andextended such cordial greetings that he was deeply touched by their evidencesof loyalty and respect. Thousands of Catholics of the many nationalitiesthat go to make the Church so cosmopolitan in Chicago, received him withtokens of delight, and lined the streets of the city, from the depot to hisresidence on the North Side—the same in which Bishop Foley lived and died. On Sunday, November 2Sth, Archbishop Feehan was installed in theCathedral of the Holy Name, in the presence of an immense congregation,with elaborate and impressive ceremonies.
