Depth of body equal or nearly equal to length of head, 3 to 3^ times in total length. Snout rounded, much shorter than eye, which is 3 times in length of head and a little less than interorbital width; mouth small, terminal; lips feebly developed; no barbels. Dorsal III 8, equally distant from eye and from caudal, border feebly concave ; last simple ray not enlarged, not serrated, as long or nearly as long as head. Anal III 5, not reaching caudal. Pectoral a little shorter than head, reaching or nearly reaching ventral; base of latter below anterior rays of dorsal. Caudal peduncle 1^ to 1§ times as long as deep. Scales radiately Fig. Bavbus stigmatopygus. Type (F. N.). striated, 22-25 ||r|i, 1| between lateral line series and ventral, 9-11 round caudal peduncle; lateral line reduced to 3-6 tubules. Yellowish with silvery sheen; a small round black spot at the base of the caudal and another at the base of the anal; one or two black spots often present on the middle line of the side.
