Carapace of Masked Crab (Corytes cassivelaunus) on intertidal sand ripples beach at St Annes, on the Lancashire Coast. This small crab species, with a carapace measuring a few centimetres across, lives outside the intertidal zone, to depths of a 100m. The crab feeds on marine worms and other small creatures in the sand and muddy sediment where the crab lives. The species is common on the west and south coasts of the British Isles.
