What time should the snapdragon seed be sownf Would the sweet peas be out of the way by the time the snapdragons should be benched? F. L. Yes, sweet peas make a good crop with which to follow chrysanthemums. If you grow main crop and late mums, these will not be out of the way before December and sweet peas sown at that time will not flower until spring. The flowering season would last until Me- morial day. If you want tall snap- dragons in June and July, you should have plants in 3-inch pots ready to set out by the middle of April. Seed for this purpose should be sown in Feb- ruary. Seedling snapdragons may vary a little more in color than those ob- tained from cuttiiigs, but they possess greater vigor and are less subject to disease. If you had snapdragons ready to plant when your mums were cleared, they would commence to flower in March and, would persist until July. Seed for this purpose should be sown by the end of August. C. W. SCALE ON FANDANUS. I have some - fine pandanus, but I noticed scale collecting on them. What shall 1 do to get rid of it? J. 8. If there is only a small amount of scale, it might be removed by spong- ing, although pandanus leaves, espe- cially those on P. utilis, are not pleas- ant to handle. If the scale is fairly well scattered, it will be best treated with Fir Tree Oil or Aphine, at the strength recommended for scale. This should be applied when the plants are all quite dry.
