Swollen uvula in pregnant woman. Oedematous (swollen) uvula in the throat of a pregnant 40-year-old woman. The cause is unknown. Severe swelling of the uvula can obstruct the breathing. Severe sore throats are treated with antibiotic drugs, but some of these cannot be used in pregnancy as they may harm the developing baby.
