Tethered Aerostat Radar System (TARS). This system is a low-level airborne ground surveillance system that uses aerostats (moored balloons) as radar platforms. US Customs and Border Protection, Air and Marine Operations, use the TARS to carry out radar surveillance to locate and intercept smugglers and narcotics traffickers in low-level aircraft, at sea and on land.
