Pale chanting goshawk (Melierax canorus) perching in a dead tree at twilight. This carnivorous bird- of-prey inhabits the savannah and bushlands of southern and eastern Africa. It hunts by day, watching from a perch and swooping to seize small animals such as lizards, birds and mammals. Adults live in territorial pairs. Pale chanting goshawks roost in trees at night. Photographed in the Kalahari Desert, South Africa.
