Frequent mention is made ofhis skill as a portrait painter, and Prof. A. , after a careful study of his knownworks throughout Europe, ascribes to him thefamous portrait of Charles the Bold in the mu-seum at Brussels. The early writers state thatprivate houses at Bruges and Ghent, as well aschurches, were filled with his works. Let ushope that some of these — hidden away duringthe religious wars or at the time of the icono-clasts — may yet be discovered and identified.
