Paul Contrary to the general impres-sion, there are some men who getinto office without any seeking ontheir part; in other words, there isan occasional instance, even in thesedays, where the office seeks the George W. Paul Claremont hassuch a man, for some years ago hewas nominated and elected to the of-fice of first selectman, contrary to hisown wishes and against his expresseddesire in the party caucus that madethe nomination. Again, it is a strongman who can poll more than hispartys strength. Mr. Paul had to dothis in order to secure his election,for his own Democratic party was inthe minority. For four consecutiveyears Mr. Paul has been chosen to theoffice of first selectman and his pres-ent election, at the recent March meeting, was won without his pres-ence at the polls, for he was athis home because of an illness of sev-eral weeks duration.
