The old asso-ciates of Lincoln called at the White House to ask the Presi-dents aid in the movement to have the old statue of Lincolnre-erected on its old site on the grounds of the Washingtoncourthouse. When the grounds were graded and improved the statue, designed and carved by Lot Flannery in 1868,was removed. It had been erected through the efforts of per-sonal friends of the martyred president.
