Blue Crane (Anthropoides paradisea). Post- Mortem of a nine days old chick. Head end of neck, opened up to reveal section of trachea, or wind pipe, upper pipe, with still living Gape Worms (Syngamus sp. or Cyathostoma sp. ) to be seen wihin. A compaction of these leading to a blockage of airways probable cause of death. Earthworms are an intermediary host and the feeding of the chick by parents of these could have been the means of infection. Oesphagus, gullet, or food pipe, below, running left to right , through to thorax.
