Tures Castle (Burg Taufers).

The Tures castle (in German Burg Taufers) is a medieval castle located in Campo Tures, in the Val di Tures, a perpendicular of the Val Pusteria. The castle stands on a promontory that forms a natural lock, called Klapf, which geographically starts the Valle Aurina, while the Drittelsand locality, located north of the castle, still belongs to the municipality of Campo owned by the lords of Taufers, the nobility and dynasties, as well as from 1215 ministerial offices of the episcopal church of Bressanone that erected it in the very early thirteenth century, it was transformed into a residential residence in the XV-XVI century. After a period of decline, the castle was restored in the second post-war period by the Benedictine abbot Hieronymus Gassner, a native of Ybbsitz in Lower Austria. Since 1977 the Castle has been purchased by the Südtiroler Burgeninstitut ("South Tyrolean Institute for the maintenance of castles"). Today it is one of the most interesting medieval castles in the autonomous province of Bolzano. There are 64 rooms in all, around 24 of which are entirely in wood. In the chapel there are frescoes from the school of Michael Pacher. Also interesting are the armory, the library, the princes' room (the Fürstenzimmer) and the audience hall. In the basement there is the prison. The castle can be visited on set days and hosts exhibitions and concerts from time to more :
