There was a near drowning here this year. The reservoir was purchased by a consortium by a consortium known as Blue Lagoon Heritage Ltd based in Horwich, but the sole director recently transferred ownership to a sole director based at a quarry in Worcestershire. In 2010 the Environment Agency raised concerns about the width of the weed and tree filled spillway in case of flooding. A local resident told me that excavators have moved in and started work on the spillway and dam after being ordered to do it by the Environment Agency. At this stage the future of the reservoir is unknown. There had been abortive attempts to gain planning pernission for a wedding venue on the 'island .
