Edward Henry Stanley, 15th Earl of Derby (1826 – 1893), aka Lord Derby, was a British statesman who served as Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs twice, from 1866 to 1868 and enunciated the policy of Splendid isolation in 1866 - a diplomatic policy of avoiding alliances and entanglements.
