The first Hassidic commentary to the traditional Passover haggadah was compiled by Rabbi Benjamin ben Aaron of Zalozce (1740-1791), Maggid in Wlatisask and Zalozce. His works include important teachings and quotations from his teacher, Yehiel Mikhl of Zlocew as well as Hasidic luminaries such as Israel Ba'al Shem, the founder of Hasidism, Dov Ber of Mezeritch, Yaakov Yosef of Polonnoye and others. Helkat Binyamin was published posthumously, thanks to the dedicated efforts of the author's son, Asher Zelig, who brought his father's manuscript to the attention of Levi Yitzchak of Berditchev, who urged its publication and provided an approbation for the printed edition. The book was printed by Judith Rosanes, one of the premier printers of Hebrew books in the 18th century, first in Zolkiew and later in Lvov. She was the great-granddaughter of the renowned Amsterdam printer Uri Phoebus ha-Levi. Altogether Judith Rosanes printed more than fifty books until her death in 1805. She was the first Jewish woman to print Hebrew books on a commercial basis over an extended period—for at least twenty-five years. It is known that she had twenty-four employees (all male). 1794.
