He built three small greenhouses, sixty feet in length, which took all of his capital. This en- terprising man at the end of the first year developed the business to double its size and had to enlarge the plant, which consisted of six greenhouses, but progress still went on until in 1892 he opened his first store, at 1917 German- town avenue. The business increased until the premises at 1917 Germantown avenue were too small. In 1899 he had to move to larger quarters at 1959 Germantown avenue, where he had been established two months when death retarded his further progress. But all this time he had a wife, who took an exceptional interest in his af- fairs and carried on the business where he had left off. Mrs. Glaus had the business experience of a veteran and moved to the present location, 3450 Germantown avenue, in October, 1911, where she has today one of the finest flower shops uptown. October 24 and 25 they will have their twenty-fifth anniversary, when a handsome souvenir will be given to ; Canna Lilies. There is a romance about the Ghes- ter valley that never fails to charm. Whether it be the beauty of hill and dale undulating in graceful curve as far as one can see, or the picturesque Brandywine and its branchlets, or the hamlets and scattered farm-houses with their air of peace and comfort, contrasting happily with the bustle of the cities, is hard to say.
