The skin is still adapting to changes from the fluid environment of the womb, to the drier environment of the atmosphere. The outer layer of the skin, the stratum corneum, is made up of dead cells that are constantly shed and replaced by new cells from the epidermis below. Magnification: x700 when printed 10cm wide.
