This season has been the worst in our experience in regard to celery blight. This is probably caused by the constant but light showers ever since July 1. This everlasting rain, together with higli temperature and sluggish air movement has been pro- ductive of blight and at the same time has rendered spraying difficult and often ineffective. Some seasons Golden Self-Blanching is the only kind affected, but this year all the green kinds are as well and that in spite of weekly sprayings with Bor- deaux. As a check we allowed a part of our crop to go entirely unsprayed. These are away behind at this date, convincing us once more that al- though Bordeaux may not complete- ly control celery blight under all con- ditions it will at least prevent a heavy loss. The next thing to spray- ing is liberal feeding. At the ap- proach of cooler weather nitrate of soda should be freely used to induce strong growth to make up for the losses of foliage in hot weather. Cel- ery that is affected by blight is hard to bleach, that is. the blight paves the way for rot and the bleaching had better be delayed for cool weather and the early market avoided. Early celery cannot be held in warm weath- er, hence any hoarding up must be Judiciously done to avoid losses. Mabketman.
