For the highest ascents inthe Himalaya the traveller must be provided either withAlpine porters, or with some of Colonel Bruces speciallytrained Gurkha mountaineers. Next to climate, transportis the most serious physical obstacle the assailant of theloftiest peaks of the Eastern Himalayas will have toencounter.
