This bulletin includes a description of the rice plant and a botanical and agronomic description of seven new varieties that have been developed in the course of cooperative experiments at the Rice Experiment Station, Crowley, La., and of four varieties now widely grown in this country. The agronomic performance and adaptation of each variety, including a full description of the conditions under which the experiments were conducted, are discussed in detail. The commercial value of the milled rice of the new varieties from a culi- nary standpoint is indicated. CONDITIONS UNDER WHICH THE RICE VARIETIES DESCRIBED WERE GROWN. The seven new varieties of rice herein described were developed from pure-line selections at the Rice Experiment Station, Crowley. La., and grown under the same conditions as the four long-established varieties which also are described in this bulletin. The station is operated by the Louisiana Agricultural Experi- ment Station in cooperation with the Office of Cereal Investiga- tions of the Bureau of Plant Industry.
