A cup-hilted rapier, Brescia, circa 1680. Slender, ridged thrusting blade with fullers on both sides of the upper third bearing a barely legible stamped inscription. The bell has open work and chiselled vine decoration, and a heavy, grooved and cut, turned-under rim. The interior guard disk is missing. Widely extended quillons with cut finials and a knucklebow. Grip cover has the original iron wire winding and braided ferrules. Flat pommel with grooved and cut rim. Velvet covered scabbard (presumably 19th century) with iron chape.
