J. F. Ammann and H. Blixen, of the J. F. Ammann Co., Edwardsville, in company with Andrew Washburn, of Bloomington, 111., and Charles Lover- idge, of Peoria, were in the city Janu- ary 29, and visited the growers in St. Louis county. Last week society was quite active and the west end florists had a busy time, with weddings, balls, receptions and dinners. Miss Newman, F. C. Weber, the Ellison Floral Co., Ka- lisch, F. H. Weber and Sanders all had their share. Lent, which set in this week, will shorten up this kind of work for the time being. George H. Angermueller says the call for orchids in this market is increas- ing rapidly. Al Gumz, Fred Alves and "Billy" Smith are talking of an entertainment and dance to be given by the Florists' Club shortly after Easter. Only florists are to take part in the Easter enter- tainment. Mr. and Mrs. Fred Venneinann, liv- ing at Kirkwood, were surprised by a burglar early Wednesday morning, January 29, in their room. The bur- glar shot Mrs. Vennemann and she is at St. Luke's hospital, in a serious con- dition. Mr. Vennemann is well known in local trade circles. August Schuerman, head of the Sehuerman Floral & Decorating Co., on North Grand avenue, died January 29, of apoplexy. He was well known as a decorator with artificial plants and bunting.
