resurrection fern an air plant with drought resistant fronds that come to life after a rainfall growing on a Live Oak tree trunk

The Resurrection fern gets its name because it can survive long periods of drought. A drought is an extended period of months or years when a region notes a deficiency in its water supply. Generally, this occurs when a region receives consistently below average precipitation. However, when just a little water is present, the fern will uncurl and reopen, appearing to "resurrect" and restoring itself to a vivid green color. It has been estimated that these plants could go 100 years without water and still revive after a single soaking.
