The box contains, accord-ing- to the seat of the trouble, one or two openings through whichthe extremity is inserted. For instance, for treatment of foot orhand the former; for treatment of elbow and knee, the latter con-trivance is selected. The top of the box contains a few draft holesand a thermometer. After the extremity has been comfortablyplaced upon felt, the box constructed to open, is closed and theopenings are tightly packed with asbestos wool, or enclosed with acufif. The heating is done with a Bunsen burner or alcohol lampplaced under a chimney that enters the box. The temperature isregulated by raising or lowering the Bunse
