Young foliage of Brookweed / Samolus valerandi growing in soggy wet gound. Mature plant has small white flowers with 5 petals. Edible foraged plant.

The leaves of semi-aquatic Brookweed look very similar to those of some varieties of Lamb's Lettuce / Cornsalad (Valerianella locusta agg.) in their early growing period. Brookweed, however, is a plant of brackish and swampy areas, and the young leaves are edible.
